Mobilization of France for the implementation of the Paris Agreement

  • 10 March 2016

Two parliaments have already begun their process of ratification of the Paris Agreement: Fiji Islands and Palau. For the text to be effective, a minimum 55 stakeholders, representing at least 55% of total emissions of greenhouse gases must ratify it.

To mobilize these actors, the French government provides talk time.
The President of the Republic will address the issue on 17 and 18 March the European Council.
Ségolène Royal, President of COP21, meets with Secretary General of the United Nations on March 11 in New York to address the signing ceremony of the scheduled April 22 at the UN Headquarters Agreement.
The French minister also propose to draw up, following the signing, a review of the actions already undertaken with a focus on three points:

  • International Solar Alliance led by the Indian Prime Minister and François Hollande in January
  • Private sector investors in low-carbon economy and the introduction of a carbon price,
  • The development of renewable energy in Africa.

And in France ?

Once signed by the President of the Republic on April 22, the bill will be considered by the State Council before being submitted to the Cabinet.
France hopes to enact legislation by the summer.
