In 2040 the European electricity will come from renewable energy

  • 14 June 2016

An expert report stated: in a few years the consumption of renewable energy will double gas.

In 2040, the expansion of renewable energies should enable the production of 70% of European electricity (32% in 2015) and exceed the gas in the USA where green energy will account for 44% of the electricity mix (14% in 2015).

Although prices of coal and gas are expected to remain low, the global electrical system will change.

Globally, renewable energy will exceed the 2027 gas and coal in 2037.

The decrease in production costs will significantly contribute to the development of wind power (- 41% by 2040) and solar (- 60%) and place them as the cheapest sources of electricity in most countries in 2030 .

Meanwhile, demand for electricity will grow, especially with the deployment of new uses.

These are 7800 billion that will be invested globally in the "green" energy between 2016 and 2040. According to the report, to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, it would invest 5,300 billion additional dollars in low carbon electricity.
